Ocean Wise Local Seafood Subscription – 12 weeks
$399 (10% below suggested retail) order here

(50% due upon sign up, remainder due March 14th–part way through the 12 weeks)

NOWBC Co-op is collaborating with Daily Catch to provide local Ocean Wise seafood!  Sign up to receive a variety of sustainable local fish and seafood over 12 weeks Feb 15 – May 8th.  Each weekly delivery will contain enough for a meal for a small family, or enough for a meal for two people plus some to put in the freezer for later.  Some example weekly deliveries: (a) 5 sockeye salmon fillets 170g ea, (b) 4 halibut fillets 170g ea, (c) 4 large salmon burgers, (d) 4 sablefish fillets 170g ea.

All seafood will be delivered frozen and will include: halibut, sockeye salmon, sablefish/black cod, albacore tuna, ling cod, salmon burgers, salmon candy, salmon lox, shrimp and hopefully local stripe prawns if we can get ‘em at the start of May when they’re in season.

Pick up your seafood at one of NOWBC Co-op’s 24 different delivery depots in Vancouver/North Van/Burnaby. By you committing to 12 weeks, we are able to organize the supply with fisherman and ensure you some great fish, all sourced responsibly from BC’s coast (excepting shrimp which is from Oregon’s coast).  Your 12 week commitment also allows us an efficient model for getting fish to you, offering you some recipes, and giving you a bulk price of $399 which is 10% below suggested retail.  We thank you for choosing your seafood responsibly, and hope you really enjoy your fish!

The Ocean Wise program is based out of the Vancouver Aquarium and is committed to providing education and information on sustainable seafood products.  NOWBC Co-op and The Daily Catch believe it is vital that all our seafood suppliers are practicing sustainable fishing practices for the health of our seas. Thus we can ensure we are meeting this goal by only carrying Ocean Wise seafood that can be directly traced to its place of origin.

Wow! Last week was an IMPRESSIVE showing of orders!! 118 people ordered, and 37 of you ordered A LOT. :-) We are floored. We are excited! Now who needs food to eat again this coming week? NOWBC still needs orders to continue, this week, and every week. Go to www.nowbc.ca/catalog/ to vote with your order again this week!  Show we can sustain this initiative we call the NOWBC on-line farmers market.

The NOWBC board will continue to evaluate through the next three months, gaging interest based on volume of orders. The co-op must surpass 100 orders every week to continue. We are eager to see how you vote. If you want the NOWBC on-line market to continue operating, go to www.nowbc.ca/catalog/ and vote with your order.

We welcome ideas you have to contribute too, email or call either Kirsty or Joanna, we are happy and eager to talk about it.

Dear NOWBC-ers,

It was with awe that I read the final figures on orders for the co-op this past week – an all time record! Thank you, I am so grateful to know that you all believe in NOWBC as much as I do. NOWBC Co-op is OUR organization and every one of us will be key to our organization’s success!

Being a co-op is an important part of who we are. You have many choices in our market place to buy organic and local products and I hope you will all continue to support NOWBC Co-op. Together we can help create a sustainable local food system and be part of finding a better way of doing business.

Let us celebrate the “co-operative” part of our name! 2012 is the International Year of Co-operatives**. There are three ways that each of you can help:

  1. Order often: Do you have trouble remembering to place your order? Set up a standing order. Do you participate in a CSA? Think about getting your other groceries from us.

  2. Spread the word: tell your friends, family and co-workers. Help them understand how NOWBC works and get them signed up!

  3. Get involved: Do you have a skill you think we could use? Contact us about volunteering. Have some feedback? Let us know! We want your help to make your organization better.

With heartfelt gratitude and best wishes,

Kirsty Dick
Executive Director, NOWBC
